Abstract

A linearly polarized (LP) metaline radiates a back-broadside-forward (BBF) scanning beam, where the broadside beam appears at a specific frequency. In contrast, two LP metalines excited in balanced mode form a broadside beam across a wide frequency band. This double metaline system has a gain bandwidth of 31% for the LP broadside radiation. Similar wide-band operation is realized for a circularly polarized (CP) broadside beam, when two metalines, each radiating a CP BBF scanning beam, are excited in balanced mode. This double metaline system shows a gain bandwidth of 32% for the CP broadside radiation.
