Abstract
This paper reports a detailed study of methane oxidation at relatively low temperatures (<450°C) using ozone or oxygen as the oxidizing agents. Due attention has been given to establish the role of gas phase reactions. The ozone and methane concentrations before and after the reaction were monitored to determine the stoichiometry of the reaction and the possible involvement of chain reactions. MgO was used as a catalyst for this reaction.
