Abstract
AIM To investigate the effect of human epidermal growth factor (hEGF) in the pathogenesis of proliferative glomemlonephritis (PGN). METHODS Twenty four patients with PGN and twelve non PGN were included in this study. Thirteen healthy person were included as normal control. The concentrations of hEGF in serum.urine and renalbiopsy tissues was detected by using immunofluorescence assay. RESULTS The hEGF concentrations of renal tissues and urine in patients with PGN is much higher than that in patients with non PGN (0.63±0.18 vs 0.59±0.15, 275±51 vs 64±19, P 0.01) and in normal control (0.63±0.18 vs 0.54±0.14, 275±51 vs 54±18, P 0.01), and the concentrations correlated with the extent of glomerular histological changes ( r =0.651, P 0.01). There was correlationship between urinary and renal hEGF level ( r =0.806, P 0.001). CONCLUSION hEGF may play a role in the pathogenesis of PGN, urinary hEGF concentrations in patients with PGN might be a reflection of the renal hEGF level.
