Abstract

Application Specific Integrated Circuits and Field Programmable Gate Arrays as well as their respective design flows have been the focus of many studies. As such the use of EDA tools becomes a necessity while researchers develop and test their proposals. Most of these tools are proprietary, rendering them cost inefficient and sometimes redundant due to their commercial nature, especially for academic use. In our paper we present and briefly describe a few open-source alternatives hosted in PyPI, a software repository for Python related projects, and we evaluate them in terms of their application field, development stage as well as their community evaluation.
