Abstract
Meckel's diverticulum (omphalomesenteric remnant) is the most common congenital abnormality of the small intestine. It may be completely asymptomatic, or revealed by a complication such as occlusion, peritonitis, or recurrent abdominal pain. The diagnosis can only be made by direct surgical investigation: laparotomy or laparoscopy. The complications are frequent and serious in children. Therefore, we recommend systematic ablation of Meckel's diverticulum. The technique of choice is short small bowel resection with termino-terminal anastomosis.
