Myélogramme et biopsie de moelle osseuse

Abstract

Bone marrow evaluation has proven to be a valuable diagnostic tool for the veterinary practitioner. It is indicated in dogs and cats when peripheral blood abnormalities are detected, for neoplastic clinical staging, diagnosis of some infectious diseases or fever of unknown origin, hyperprotidemia and hypercalcemia and iron store evaluation. Bone marrow aspirate biopsies are done more frequently than core biopsies in veterinary medicine. Aspirate biopsies may provide a diagnosis in a lot of cases. However when repeated aspiration attempts are unsuccessful or when there is a suspicion of marrow hypocellularity, core biopsies are preferred. Accurate interpretation of the sample requires a complete blood cell count, complete clinical information and knowledge of normal and pathologic bone marrow.
