Examen rhinoscopique et chirurgie des cavités nasales

Abstract

Progress have been made in the diagnostic of nasal and sinus diseases in dogs and cats through the use of rhinoscopy (nasal endoscopy) and computed tomography. Because of these new exploratory means, surgical exploratory techniques are seldom used. Rhinoscopy is an useful tool allowing direct assessment of endonasal structures and tissue sampling for histological analysis but can also have direct therapeutical use in the case of foreign bodies. Main indications of surgery are treatment of tumors (through dorsal rhinotomy) prior to radiation therapy, and treatment of nasal infections of dental origin (through lateral rhinotomy).
