Abstract

Systemic arterial hypertension is a common disorder in aged animals, especially in cats. Ocular consequences of this disorder are very important, sometimes irreversible, and can lead to sudden blindness. Lesions consist in retinopathies, choroidopathies and optic neuropathies, and their consequences are mainly hemorrhages and retinal detachments. Treatment by a calcium-channel blocker such as oral amlodipine besylate may stabilize the lesions; improved vision is almost rare.
