’Of Seint Alex of Rome’. A Middle English Version of the Life of the Saint

Abstract

In addition, a reassessment of the text’s literary merit is proposed, through a broader contextualisation of the narration. On the one hand Of Seint Alex of Rome is dealt with as part of the larger unit in which it is preserved, Ms. XIII B 29; on the other, its significance as literary discourse is analysed in relation to the cultural panorama that characterises the centuries of its diffusion in Western Europe.
