EDUCAÇÃO E EMPREGO: O IMPACTO DA ESCOLARIDADE NA PARTICIPAÇÃO DOS SETORES SELECIONADOS DO MERCADO DE TRABALHO POTIGUAR

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of education on the participation of sectors of activity in the labor market in Rio Grande do Norte. The econometric strategy used was the logistic regression model using data from the National Household Sampling Survey (PNAD). The tested hypothesis is that individuals with more education tend to occupy jobs with better pay and working conditions. Statistical data preliminarily showed an increase in individuals with secondary and higher education in the population of Rio Grande do Sul in recent years. The estimates of the Logit regression model showed that the increase in schooling has positive effects on participation in the labor market. However, it presented asymmetrical effects on the chances of participation of the sectors of the economic activity in Rio Grande do Sul, that is, in the sectors with better remuneration the effect of education is positive and in the sectors with lower remunerations and with worse working conditions, the effect was negative.
