Study on efficacy and safety of paliperidone in the treatment of elderly patients with schizophrenia

Abstract

Objective To investigate the efficacy and safety of paliperidone and perphenazine tablets in the treatment of eldedy schizophrenia.Methods A total of 63 elderly schizophrenia randomlized into two groups were respectively given Paliperidone or perphenazine for 8 weeks.Clinical effect was evaluated was Positive and Negative Symptom Scale (PANSS),Personal and Social Performance Scale (PSP) and the assessment of adverse drug reaction was evaluated with Traumatic Exposure Severity Scale (TESS).Results The total effective rate was respectively 84.38％ or 80.65％.There were no significant differences in the clinical effect between the two groups.And side effects of Paliperidone were less than perphenazine.Conclusion Paliperidone has good efficacy and high safety in the treatment of elderly schizophrenia patients.So it is beneficial to maintained treatment.
