Curative effect report of conservative treatment for small apical cyst

Abstract

Objective To study the combined clinical efficacy of sealing agents in simple root canal and gutta-percha root canal filling for treatment of small apical cyst (less than 2 cm in diameter) in anterior tooth.Methods A total of 43 anterior teeth with apical small cyst from 35 cases were studied.All teeth went through adequate drainage,root canals preparation and VITAPEX sealing.Agents were changed fortnightly.During the treatment period,primacaine filling paste combined with gutta-percha was used for root canal filling,according to the shrink status of cyst shown on X-rays of the apical.X-rays following up was performed every six months to track the clinical efficacy after the operations.Results After a two-year-long follow-up,among the 43 teeth with apical cyst,27 teeth healed,12 improved,and 4 failed.The effective rate was 90.69％.Conclusion VITAPEX root canal sealing combined with gutta-percha root canal filling can treat effectively most of small apical cyst in anterior tooth.
