AVALIAÇÃO DE IMPACTO DO PROGRAMA BOLSA FAMÍLIA SOBRE O CONSUMO DAS FAMÍLIAS BENEFICIÁRIAS: UMA ANÁLISE ATRAVÉS DA POF 2008- 2009

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to evaluate the impact of the Bolsa Familia Program on the consumption expenses of its beneficiary families, through the 2008-2009 Household Budget Survey (POF, in Portuguese), in order to verify how Bolsa Familia interferes with the consumption patterns of Brazilian families. The empirical strategy was based on the use of Propensity Score Matching. The dependent variables considered were food expenses, non-food expenses and total expenditure, considering the absolute monetary values spent in each of these. the matching was made through the method of stratication matching. Results show that Bolsa Familia beneficiaries had a lower expenditure than the non-beneficiaries of the program in the three expenditure groups analyzed.
