Abstract
The aim of this paper is to identify demographic patterns and factors associated with labor productivity in Brazilian states. The demographic scenario covers the period from 1970 to 2010, while labor productivity is analyzed from 2001 to 2010 due to data availability. In order to estimate robust parameters for the endogeneity of variables, in addition to estimations in traditional panel data, a dynamic specification was used. Regarding the demographic scenario, there is a more advanced demographic transition process in the South and Southeast Regions, indicating that fewer people will be of working age in the coming years. And allied to this, the total productivity of labor, as well as of different sectors, resulted in a positive and significant association regarding the increase of human capital, which may be a relevant factor for these regions in the next years.
