COEXISTÊNCIA ENTRE O PASSADO E O FUTURO: TRANSFORMAÇÕES URBANO-ESTRATÉGICA DA PRAIA DO FORTE – BA

Abstract

Praia do Forte, located on the coast of Mata de Sao Joao municipality, state of Bahia - Brazil, highlights from other neighbor location by its economic potential and for radical changing in its microterritory, making it a tourist destination recognized on national and international routes. It is intend to analyze how urban planning had influenced on socio-spatial transformations as well as the development of Praia do Forte, from the 1970s, which was one of the main changing periods of territorial, environmental, social, and cultural dynamics so far established. Those aspects are discussed through a logical and critical analysis  underlieing the strategic planning in the urban landscape production combined with the adoption of exogenous development models that does not allow traditions valuating and  identity of local groups. As a result, some territory conflicts and contradictions had been identified through socio-spatial segregation.
