Oral Health of Ventilated Children with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome: An Overview in the Covid Era

Abstract

Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in children is an acute condition which is considered as an important condition in the pediatric intensive care unit. These patients require constant ventilator support for normal functioning and these will have effect on their oral health from increase in plaque score to effect on periodontium and also vice versa wherein poor oral hygiene can effect general wellbeing of an individual’s especially having greater effect on patients with intubation. This review focus on the oral health status, association of oral health and ARDS, the importance of performing and maintaining oral hygiene in children in the backdrop of an anticipated third Covid wave predominantly affecting the children in the country.
