Abstract
The book addresses the political, ideological and hierarchical relations within the military corporation, which have been shaped and organised in order to guarantee and legitimate the Brazilian dictatorship from 1964 to 1985. In this way, the focus of the text concerns itself with a historical perspective in understanding the inter- and intra-military staff relationships with regard to the three Armed Forces - the Army, the Navy, and the Air Force. To sum up, the author’s proposal lies in deconstructing a misconception upon this complex theme which has emphasised the professional and apolitical characteristics of the Armed Forces in Brazil.
