Specific objectives: to point out the main conceptions regarding school library; to outline the history of LDB; to search for mentions to the Library and related terms inside the text of laws; and to analyze the references made and the omission of terms. Methodology: it presents characteristics of a bibliographic and documentary study, using theoretical references contained in the Information Science Database (BRAPCI) during the second half of 2020. In addition to BRAPCI, it was also searched on scientific studies in the area of Information Science, specifically in the field of Library Science, as well as courses in the area of Education, in order to identify studies that approach LDB and its developments. Results: the bibliographic survey indicated a lack of studies that dialogue with and refer to the school library in the context of LDB. The documentary analysis conducted on LDB pointed out the absence of mentions or references made to the school library, or any terms related to it. Abstract

Introduction: the school library is present in the main dialogues on education, despite the main laws governing education in Brazil, they do not legitimize its importance, highlighting its value and the important role it occupies as a favorable space for collaboration and the construction of activities that contribute to the teaching-learning process.
