Abstract

This article understood the senses that wheelchair users give to their recreational experiences in Popayán Cauca. Methodologically he placed himself in qualitative research of hermeneutic historical cut, with substantiated theory design, drawing on non-participating observations, open interviews and in-depth interviews, which led to the writing of emerging theory. The results highlighted that wheelchair users manage to give a sense of re-significance to their recreational experience, emerging from recreation as a relational device, which thus allows to turn a spin on activist practices of recreation and the concept of disability; such re-significance moves around the senses of recreation as a symbol, as a network of relationships and the family as key players in the construction of individual and social identity, within the experienceal process. First, the representations of recreational experiences through the exchange of experiences; second, Recreation as a form of strengthening and overcoming; third, The family as the main axis of primary emotions between leisure and leisure.
