Abstract

ABSTRACT The purpose of this article is to explore ways of aiding students in their learning how to become effective crisis intervention specialists by helping them understand their responses to crisis, and through the development of their professional use of self. New police cadets and human service workers alike bring with them the beliefs and emotions learned from personal histories that may hinder or help their ability to become effective crisis workers. The article helps those who teach crisis intervention to engage students in various experiential exercises that maximize their strengths and minimize their weaknesses.
