Abstract
This paper reviewed the progression of the ganglionic eminence in the developing human brain. After 20 weeks of gestation, strips of cells emerged from this progenitor mass towards the corpus striatum. Some went the opposite direction to the thalamus by 25 gestational weeks. The progenitor cells in the ganglionic eminence also gathered into clusters by this time. By late gestation (31/32 gestational weeks), no accumulation of heavy-stained progenitor cells was observed anymore and the subventricular zone had normal morphology as those at birth. This was compared with recent works on the rodents dealing with the origin and destination of progenitor cells in the ganglionic eminence.
