The sociology of migration from the former Yugoslavia.

Abstract

This is a general review of migration, including both international and internal migration, in the former Yugoslavia before its breakdown into constituent countries in the early 1990s. The author examines such topics as labor migration, the distribution of migrants from Yugoslavia in host countries, the characteristics of migrants from Serbia, the assimilation of immigrants, the economic effects of emigration on places of origin, and return migration.
