Abstract

Western fiction, in the view of many authors and publishers affiliated with that genre as well as librarians, feel that the Western has become severely marginalized and, as a result, is more difficult to select to ensure well rounded collections. This study examines the collections of 45 select American public libraries to determine the degree to which 40 non-Spur Award-winning titles are found in their popular fiction collections.
