Practical hints when fitting tinted contact lenses for vision occlusion

Abstract

In some cases a tinted contact lens is clinically necessary for a patient to obtain occlusion of vision. Indications include intractable diplopia and confusing image distortions resulting from retinal trauma. This paper gives guidelines on contact lens fitting in such cases and describes the difficulties encountered in achieving a balance between adequate occlusion and cosmetic appearance. The importance of patient counselling is emphasised.
