Abstract

T cell-mediated immunity plays an important role in the defense against human papillomavirus (HPV) associated cervical cancer as evident from data of the etiology of the virus, several animal models and clinical data. This review addresses the most recent observations in this field which have led to the first clinical trials that are aimed at an immunotherapeutic intervention in this disease via induction of HPV specific T-cell responses.
