Abstract
The present article aims to analyze the role of sport within Physical Education as a strategy for the development of social-emotional competences in adolescents with mild intellectual disabilities, which is derived from the ongoing research process called "Iocus Emotio pedagogical proposal for the development of social-emotional competences in adolescent students with mild intellectual disabilities". The competencies of awareness, regulation and emotional autonomy will be reviewed as categories of analysis that give foundation to the theoretical framework. This research responds to a qualitative methodology of educational action research type, which is investigated through Likert-type surveys and semi-structured interviews mediated by play, formulated from the three categories mentioned above. It is partially concluded that sport is associated with the development of SSC, since it allows the regulation and management of emotions in different environments and game situations and as a maturing process, of growth and increase of autonomy, improving the adaptive behavior.
