Abstract

I Contemporary Chinese Marxist Social Outlook and Philosophy of Education is the second of two special issues organized by the Journal of Educational Philosophy and Theory (EPAt). the first special issue focused on contemporary chinese scholars’ study of the foundations of Marxism. nine papers along with an introduction authored by chengbing Wang were published in Vol. 54 (2022), no. 11 of EPAt. this group of papers, together with the group-authored ‘contemporary chinese Marxism: Basic research orientations’ and the editorial ‘contemporary chinese Marxism: disciplines, teaching platforms and status quo of basic academic research’, co-authored by chengbing Wang and Michael A. Peters, has attracted the attention of readers and colleagues. By March 2023, these papers had been downloaded or viewed more than 17,000 times, and the collection of the papers in the first special issue are selected by routledge as one of the special issues as books in the second half of 2023. the second special issue, which consists of eight papers, concerns contemporary chinese Marxist educational philosophy and social outlook. of these eight papers, six are either expan-sions of their authors’ brief discussions in the collective writing ‘contemporary chinese Marxism: Social visions and philosophy of education—An EPAt collective project’, or new papers based thereon. Like the authors of the first issue, all the writers in this special issue are professional researchers from departments of philosophy or schools of Marxism in chinese universities. Some are well-known leading scholars and top experts in chinese academic circles, some are prom-inent Marxist researchers, and some are up-and-coming junior scholars.

Educational Philosophy and Theory publishes articles concerned with all aspects of educational philosophy. It will also consider manuscripts from other areas of pure or applied educational research. In this latter category the journal has published manuscripts concerned with curriculum theory, educational administration, the politics of education, educational history, educational policy, and higher education. As part of the journal''s commitment to extending the dialogues of educational philosophy to the profession and education''s several disciplines, it encourages the submission of manuscripts from collateral areas of study in education, the arts, and sciences, as well as from professional educators. Nevertheless, manuscripts must be germane to the ongoing conversations and dialogues of educational philosophy.
