It was found that the Ru modified Ni–30Al–0.3Dy coating effectively suppressed the interdiffusion between the coating and the substrate and inhibited the precipitation of topologically close-packed (TCP) phases which impaired the mechanical properties of the superalloy. The 1100°C annealing and oxidation tests suggested that, different from Pt, Ru restricted the inward diffusion of Al from the coating to the substrate, thereby hindering the interdiffusion. Abstract
