Elective Sphenopalatine Artery Ligation for Recurrent Epistaxis

Abstract

Introduction: Epistaxis is a very common presenting complaint. A small percentage of patients will require surgical intervention for severe epistaxis. Methods: We describe our experience in 3 consecutive patients and how we perform endoscopic sphenopalatatine artery ligation (ESPAL), as an elective procedure for patients with multiple hospital admissions for epistaxis. Results: All patients remain free of epistaxis up to date. Conclusions: Elective ESPAL is an effective treatment option for a carefully selected group of patients.
