Stem cells could be used to repair or replace damaged neurons (Regenerate spinal cord), repair of damaged organs such as the liver and pancreas. Stem cell transplantation (SCT) is the term now used in preference to bone marrow transplantation (BMT). Potential uses of stem cells include restoring blood cell production, therapeutic cloning for tissue repair , and cancer treatment. Stem cells are used inbasic research for clarification of complex events that occur during human development, and understanding molecular basis of cancer, molecular mechanisms for gene control. Stem cells can provide specific cell types (pluripotent stem cells) to test new drugs, and to reduce animal testing. Abstract

Stem cell therapy is introduction of new adult stem cells into damaged tissue in order to treat disease or injury.
