Institutional Changes in the Higher Education System of the Republic of Buryatia

Abstract

ABSTRACT The article analyzes several contemporary trends in the higher education system of the Republic of Buryatia. The author focuses on the crisis of the republic’s higher education system and its inability to create a knowledge economy due to the declining quality of education and the qualitative and quantitative disparity between the skills of graduates and the real demands of the regional economy. The case is made for an independent approach to the development of higher education in the region by providing unique opportunities for students. The main conclusions are based on the author’s sociological research on the quality of education and the labor market of the Republic of Buryatia.
