El desempeño profesional de graduados universitarios en Cuba: un estudio sistemático

Abstract

This work analyses the challenges faced by Latin American universities, and the Universidad de la Republica in particular, before the aim of generalization of higher education and retention of students. The tension between the apparent equality of opportunities for the access to higher education and the inequality to complete their studies, is discussed, as the number of students that access university has increased as much as attrition, which is particularly dramatic in the first year. Different models of explanation for this situation are presented, focusing on the model of institutional responsibility, from which policies of support to access and retention that go beyond the peripheric and remedial actions can be implemented.
