Abstract

The overall theme of Michel Laub’s “Diary of the Fall” is the interconnectedness of the individual and social experiences of calamity and dementia in memory, struggle to remember and forget, as well as the fragility of the person and the planet. Ultimately, “Diary of the Fall” is a moving and introspective book that examines the themes of guilt, identity, and the fragility of relationships through the prism of one man’s quest to comprehend his history and accept his part in the events that occurred.
