Abstract
When the opportunity to review this book came up I jumped at the chance. The book is edited by Ameratunga, A., Sivakugan, N and Das, B.M. I have several books by Das and this one did not disappoint. The coverage is thorough and comprehensive while at the same time clearly and simply explained. The book primarily covers ground improvement in soft clays but covers so much else besides. It would be of interest to all, easy enough to read for students but informative enough for practitioners. Chapter 2 covers the engineering geology of soft clay as part of the importance of the ground model including a discussion around different kinds of ground model. A summary of basic soil mechanics in chapter 3 flows logically into the geotechnical testing (Chapter 4) and then derivation of the design parameters, all applicable to the design of ground improvement in soft clays.
期刊介绍:
Quarterly Journal of Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology is owned by the Geological Society of London and published by the Geological Society Publishing House.
Quarterly Journal of Engineering Geology & Hydrogeology (QJEGH) is an established peer reviewed international journal featuring papers on geology as applied to civil engineering mining practice and water resources. Papers are invited from, and about, all areas of the world on engineering geology and hydrogeology topics. This includes but is not limited to: applied geophysics, engineering geomorphology, environmental geology, hydrogeology, groundwater quality, ground source heat, contaminated land, waste management, land use planning, geotechnics, rock mechanics, geomaterials and geological hazards.
The journal publishes the prestigious Glossop and Ineson lectures, research papers, case studies, review articles, technical notes, photographic features, thematic sets, discussion papers, editorial opinion and book reviews.
