Abstract
Nowadays, the analysis of food is of high concern in terms of quality and safety. Analysis of food samples becomes tedious when complex food matrixes cause interference during analysis. Optical biosensors based on chemiluminescence (CL) and fluorescence (FL) detection have been dedicated to different food analysis over the last few decades. These CL and FL-based biosensors offer several merits over routinely used conventional methods in terms of sensitivity and selectivity. They also facilitate the ease of analysing different samples with minimal sample preparation. This article compiles data from CL and FL-based biosensing in various food samples with varied sample matrices. The main focus of this article is to provide brief introduction to the topic, systematize current literature on CL and FL-based biosensors for food analysis and discuss critical challenges as well as future prospects in this field.

Sensors and Actuators Reports is a peer-reviewed open access journal launched out from the Sensors and Actuators journal family. Sensors and Actuators Reports is dedicated to publishing new and original works in the field of all type of sensors and actuators, including bio-, chemical-, physical-, and nano- sensors and actuators, which demonstrates significant progress beyond the current state of the art. The journal regularly publishes original research papers, reviews, and short communications.
For research papers and short communications, the journal aims to publish the new and original work supported by experimental results and as such purely theoretical works are not accepted.
