All six isolates showed high sequence dissimilarities of multilocus sequence typing, 16S rDNA sequences, and <em>lytA</em> sequences from typical <em>S. pneumoniae</em> strains. Data from this study suggest that classic tests such as optochin susceptibility and bile solubility tests may lead to incorrect identification of <em>S. pneumoniae</em>.
