Abstract

Hanita-Ben-Sira has recently developed a bifocal optical implant with central hyperminus and peripheral positive components that is used in conjunction with specially constructed spectacles to improve visual performance in patients with age-related macular degeneration. The Ben-Sira teledioptric system was evaluated in 17 patients. It produces a magnified image of high and improved resolution and an enlargement of the visual field. It is easy to use and increases the reading distances.
