Abstract

Adhesive resin luting cements bond to enamel, dentine, porcelain and some metal alloys. The use of adhesive resins, in the restoration of teeth with short, tapered clinical crowns or other unfavourable geometric configurations, may be particularly advantageous because an approach less destructive than traditional crown preparation may be possible. This paper reviews the composition, adhesive, physical, and biological properties, and handling characteristics of Panavia and 4-META containing resins (C & B Metabond and Super-Bond C & B). It is concluded that clinical trials are needed to determine the structural longevity and clinical efficacy of these adhesive systems.
