Abstract
The authors studied the Milan antigen in patients with or without viral hepatitis, with various hepatopathies and lastly with general illnesses.
From July to August 1971, they worked with Milan antibody serum, then with sera from patients having reacted with the original antibody. Taking into consideration the first period only, they concluded that :
--
this antigen called Milan is not specific for viral hepatitis A as it is present without it. Thus is doesn't have the same value as Australia antigen (with which it is sometimes associated);
--
it seems to be a non constitutional precipitating system. It is possible that it's an abnormal lipoprotein which appears during cholestasis. However, no correlation was found with the bilirubin, cholesterol and lipid levels. According to clinical data, it is difficult to tell with what this non constitutional precipitating system corresponds.
