Abstract
Background: Genital self-image may influence women's psychological well-being and attitudes toward genital aesthetic surgery. However, the relationships among genital self-image, happiness, and psychological resilience remain insufficiently understood.
Objectives: This study aimed to examine the relationships between women's genital self-image, happiness, and psychological resilience and to determine whether happiness mediates the association between genital self-image and psychological resilience.
Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study included 360 women. Data were collected using the Female Genital Self-Image Scale (FGSIS), Happiness Scale (HS), and Brief Resilience Scale (BRS), together with a demographic information form. Data were analyzed using ANOVA, correlation analysis, logistic regression, and mediation analysis.
Results: FGSIS scores differed significantly according to age, education, income, and number of children. Number of children was negatively correlated with FGSIS (r = -0.409, p < .001) and HS (r = -0.344, p < .001). FGSIS was positively correlated with HS (r = 0.252, p < .001) and BRS (r = 0.231, p < .001), while HS was positively correlated with BRS (r = 0.434, p < .001). Mediation analysis demonstrated a significant direct effect of FGSIS on BRS (β = 0.152, p = .006) and an indirect effect through HS (β = 0.119, p < .001), with a significant total effect (β = 0.271, p < .001).
Conclusions: Genital self-image was positively associated with happiness and psychological resilience, with happiness mediating this association.
