Abstract
For enhancement of visible-light-driven degradation of tetracycline (TCL), this work reports synthesis of a Fe-assisted Fe-AC/AgI nanocomposite which is prepared using a simple co-precipitation approach. Herein, XRD and FESEM analyses confirmed the formation of a well-crystallized material which comprises a stable structural framework along with uniform morphology composed of well-interconnected particles. Whereas, optical and electrochemical characterizations further demonstrate that AgI possesses a suitable, aligned band structure for visible-light activation, and revealing an optical band gap of 2.53 eV. The Fe2+ ions introduced effective electron-trapping sites, which helped in the suppression of rapid e−/h+ recombination and promoted the generation of reactive oxygen species, particularly ⋅OH and ⋅O₂− radicals. These radicals play a decisive role in degradation of TCL. Due to which, the Fe-AC/AgI photocatalyst achieved a notable degradation efficiency of about 89.77% under visible-light irradiation and it also retained its catalytic activity over multiple reuse cycles. Overall, these findings determine that Fe-AC/AgI system is a promising and practical photocatalyst for the wastewater treatment, which offers an efficient strategy for the ultimate removal of pharmaceutical contaminants.
期刊介绍:
Catalysis Letters aim is the rapid publication of outstanding and high-impact original research articles in catalysis. The scope of the journal covers a broad range of topics in all fields of both applied and theoretical catalysis, including heterogeneous, homogeneous and biocatalysis.
The high-quality original research articles published in Catalysis Letters are subject to rigorous peer review. Accepted papers are published online first and subsequently in print issues. All contributions must include a graphical abstract. Manuscripts should be written in English and the responsibility lies with the authors to ensure that they are grammatically and linguistically correct. Authors for whom English is not the working language are encouraged to consider using a professional language-editing service before submitting their manuscripts.
