Abstract

A metal-organic Au₁₂ cage was obtained by reaction of a dipyrazole ligand with AuCl(SMe₂). The cage has an octahedral geometry, with Au₃(pyrazolate)₃ complexes paneling four out of the eight faces. The cage can act as an exo- and endo-receptor for fullerenes.
