Abstract
Transformation of aminofurazans into azofurazans via anodic oxidation of amino group at the furazan ring was investigated. Azofurazans were obtained in high yields (to 99%) by electrolysis in an undivided cell in aqueous solutions of alkali metal halides with participation of electrochemically generated alkali metal hypohalites acting as redox mediators. The electrochemical method is environmentally friendly and the electrolyte can be recycled with no appreciable decrease in the efficiency of aminofurazan oxidation.
