Abstract
New 3,2′:6′,3″- and 4,2′:6′,4″-terpyridines bearing a CF3 substituent at the 4′ position were synthesized. The synthesis was accomplished in one step by the reaction of lithium (Z)-1,1,1-trifluoro-4-oxo-4-(3-pyridinyl)- or (Z)-1,1,1-trifluoro-4-oxo-4-(4-pyridinyl)-but-2-en-2-olate with ammonium acetate in glacial AcOH. The molecular and crystal structures of the new compounds were determined by X-ray diffraction.
