Abstract
The objective was to describe the clinical and perioperative characteristics of patients undergoing surgery for pulmonary hydatidosis at the Guillermo Almenara Irigoyen National Hospital (HNGAI). An observational, descriptive, and retrospective study was conducted that included 62 patients with pulmonary hydatid cyst (PHC) who underwent surgery between 2019 and 2024. The mean age was 39.0 ± 17.8 years, and 51.6% of the patients came from inland regions of the country. The mean diameter of the cysts was 9.3 ± 3.4 cm; 66.1% presented with perihilar location, and 40.3% with multiple cysts. Lobectomy was the most frequent surgical procedure (59.7%). Postoperative complications occurred in 12.9% of patients, and no perioperative mortality was recorded. In conclusion, pulmonary hydatidosis was characterized by a significant proportion of perihilar, multiple, and large cysts. Lobectomy was the most used surgical procedure, with a low frequency of postoperative complications.
