Abstract
Rapid advancements in transportation, optoelectronics, and portable electronic devices are accelerating the transition toward sustainable energy solutions. Hybrid supercapacitors are increasingly recognized as efficient energy storage systems, attracting considerable interest because of their adaptable configurations and enhanced electrochemical performance. Nevertheless, advancing electrode materials with improved electrochemical performance is essential for enhancing specific capacity, long-term cycling durability, and energy density. In this work, CuO, reduced graphene oxide (rGO)/CuO, and CeO2/CuO nanocomposites were synthesized using a hydrothermal approach. The prepared nanomaterials were systematically characterized to evaluate their structural, functional, optical, and morphological features using x-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman, Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR), photoluminescence (PL), and ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Electrochemical analysis revealed that the CeO2/CuO-based electrode exhibited superior electrochemical storage performance, achieving specific capacitance of 599 F g−1 when tested at 5 mV s−1, significantly outperforming rGO/CuO (176 F g−1) and CuO (164 F g−1). To better elucidate the hybrid charge-storage mechanism of the CeO2/CuO electrode, a detailed kinetic study (Dunn’s model) was conducted to decouple surface capacitive effects from bulk diffusion contributions.
The Journal of Electronic Materials (JEM) reports monthly on the science and technology of electronic materials, while examining new applications for semiconductors, magnetic alloys, dielectrics, nanoscale materials, and photonic materials. The journal welcomes articles on methods for preparing and evaluating the chemical, physical, electronic, and optical properties of these materials. Specific areas of interest are materials for state-of-the-art transistors, nanotechnology, electronic packaging, detectors, emitters, metallization, superconductivity, and energy applications.
Review papers on current topics enable individuals in the field of electronics to keep abreast of activities in areas peripheral to their own. JEM also selects papers from conferences such as the Electronic Materials Conference, the U.S. Workshop on the Physics and Chemistry of II-VI Materials, and the International Conference on Thermoelectrics. It benefits both specialists and non-specialists in the electronic materials field.
A journal of The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society.
