Abstract

There is limited information in the existing literature regarding the choice of oxazolidinone in clinical practice to treat infections caused by staphylococcal species. As members of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) Study Group for Staphylococci and Staphylococcal Diseases (ESGS) we have collaborated and written this narrative review aimed at clinicians considering these agents in practice. The review focuses on two medications, linezolid and tedizolid, with a comprehensive description of pharmacology aspects, adverse effects, drug interactions and contraindications, and we investigate the potential for treatment optimization. We anticipate that this article will provide support for those considering utilization of linezolid and tedizolid in clinical practice to treat staphylococcal species.
