Abstract
Introduction: Laryngeal plasmacytomas are rare plasma cell neoplasms that can mimic other lesions, posing a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. Their location within the airway makes early diagnosis and precise management crucial to prevent airway compromise. This report aims to describe the first documented case of solitary laryngeal plasmacytoma managed with transoral microelectrode surgery (TOMES), highlighting its potential as a minimally invasive therapeutic option.
Case report: We describe a 60-year-old man with a laryngeal tumour initially misinterpreted. The tumor, located in the right ventricular band and extending to the ipsilateral vocal fold, was completely resected with TOMES. Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of plasmacytoma, and systemic investigations ruled out multiple myeloma. The postoperative course was uneventful, with no recurrence after years of follow-up.
Discussion: Although radiotherapy remains the standard treatment for solitary extramedullary plasmacytoma, complete transoral resection may be a valuable alternative, particularly when airway patency is threatened. TOMES provides precise cutting and excellent haemostatic control, enabling complete tumour excision with minimal morbidity and preservation of laryngeal function.
Conclusion: This is the first reported case of solitary laryngeal plasmacytoma successfully treated with TOMES. This minimally invasive technique represents a promising tool in the surgical management of laryngeal tumours.

European Annals of Oto-rhino-laryngology, Head and Neck diseases heir of one of the oldest otorhinolaryngology journals in Europe is the official organ of the French Society of Otorhinolaryngology (SFORL) and the the International Francophone Society of Otorhinolaryngology (SIFORL). Today six annual issues provide original peer reviewed clinical and research articles, epidemiological studies, new methodological clinical approaches and review articles giving most up-to-date insights in all areas of otology, laryngology rhinology, head and neck surgery. The European Annals also publish the SFORL guidelines and recommendations. The journal is a unique two-armed publication: the European Annals (ANORL) is an English language well referenced online journal (e-only) whereas the Annales Françaises d’ORL (AFORL), mail-order paper and online edition in French language are aimed at the French-speaking community. French language teams must submit their articles in French to the AFORL site.
Federating journal in its field, the European Annals has an Editorial board of experts with international reputation that allow to make an important contribution to communication on new research data and clinical practice by publishing high-quality articles.
