Abstract
This communication proposes a novel Lego-type modular unit for an all-dielectric reassemblable transmitarray antenna (RTA). The unit cell is discretized into small particles serving distinct functions of phase-shifting, antireflection, and polarization conversion. The particles can be assembled together conveniently by Lego’s stud and tube structure, enabling highly flexible beam and polarization switching. Linearly polarized (LP) and circularly polarized (CP) RTAs with $16\times 16$ unit cells are designed, and the prototypes are manufactured by low-cost 3-D-printing technology. The LP RTA attains a beam scanning range of ±60° with a peak gain of 25.6 dBi and an aperture efficiency of 39.2% at 23 GHz, and exhibits a 1-dB gain bandwidth of 19.1% (20.4–24.6 GHz). The CP RTA achieves a beam scanning range of ±40° while exhibiting a 1-dB gain bandwidth of 29.6% (19.7–26.5 GHz) and a 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW) of 27.1% (18.5–24.2 GHz). Furthermore, the proposed dielectric particles have simple and uniform structures, which facilitate massive and rapid fabrication.
