Abstract
This letter presents a low-profile and broadband folded transmitarray antenna for linear-to-circular polarization conversion using metasurfaces (MSs). The antenna consists of a top and a bottom MSs, along with an open waveguide feed located within the top MS. The top MS is designed to reflect linearly polarized waves and convert them into circularly polarized waves for full transmission, whereas the bottom MS enables a 90$^\circ$ polarization rotation of incident linear polarization waves. Operating at a central frequency of 10.5 GHz, the electromagnetic waves emitted by the feed undergo three reflections between the top and bottom MSs, effectively reducing the antenna profile height to one-fourth that of traditional focusing transmitarray antennas. Excellent agreement is observed between the simulation and measurement results, demonstrating a 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth of 27%, a 3 dBi gain bandwidth of 28.7%, and a peak gain of 20.6 dBi at 10.5 GHz. The proposed folded array antenna shows substantial potential for applications in circularly polarized satellite communications.
期刊介绍:
IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters (AWP Letters) is devoted to the rapid electronic publication of short manuscripts in the technical areas of Antennas and Wireless Propagation. These are areas of competence for the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S). AWPL aims to be one of the "fastest" journals among IEEE publications. This means that for papers that are eventually accepted, it is intended that an author may expect his or her paper to appear in IEEE Xplore, on average, around two months after submission.
